Text and Image Workshop

$75.00

This 2 hour workshop will begin with an art history lecture and discussion on ways artists have incorporated the written word into their visual images. With that background in mind to inspire us, we will then dive into a guided workshop to create your own piece, resulting in a small finished work, a shareable art card, and/or as a study for you to develop into something larger on your own.

One goal of this workshop is for you to engage with your own text from a different perspective in hopes of sparking new avenues for your creative process.

BYOT: bring your own short text (work in progress or finished) or text that you want to incorporate into an image. This can be anything from a simple meaningful phrase, to a favorite quote or song lyric, to your own poem or prose excerpt that you might like to illustrate or use as inspiration. All other supplies will be provided.

Tuesday, July 14 from 6:30pm-8:30 pm

(15% discount for Backstory co-working and community members.)

Andy Burrows and Rachel Damian are currently nomadic travelers, finding art and inspiration wherever we are. You’ll often find us in a cafe, with Andy creating handmade postcards to document the voyage. As a lifelong artist and fan of comics, he often finds that pairing text with images makes for a satisfying design. Rachel, in her former life, was an Art History instructor at San Francisco University High School, where she taught a variety of Art History and interdisciplinary classes.
